Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE) is a constituent college of the University of Dar es Salaam, established in 2005 to address the acute shortage of graduate teachers and education professionals in Tanzania. This initiative followed the successful implementation of the Primary Education Development Programme (PEDP) and the Secondary Education Development Programme (SEDP), which significantly increased school enrollment and highlighted the need for qualified educators.
Located in Chang’ombe, Temeke Municipality, Dar es Salaam, DUCE occupies a 52.97-acre campus adjacent to the Benjamin William Mkapa Stadium, approximately 5 km from the city center . DUCE comprises three faculties: the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Science, and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The Faculty of Education offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs aimed at producing competent educators equipped with critical thinking and transferable skills.
In addition to academic programs, DUCE engages in research and consultancy services, contributing to the advancement of education and societal development. The college also operates demonstration schools, including Chang’ombe Pre-primary, Primary, and Secondary Schools, which serve as practical training grounds for students and exemplify its commitment to quality education .
