Matongo Mining Company Limited is a privately owned firm registered in Tanzania, holding a certificate of incorporation (No. 155795492) dated April 9, 2022. Matongo Gold Mine is currently looking to hire a Senior Mine Geologist to enhance and lead its underground geology team. This role involves managing all geological operations underground, ensuring high technical standards in data collection and analysis. The objective is to convert geological data into valuable insights that guide orebody optimization and support efficient resource extraction.

This role is tasked with delivering advanced geological expertise to aid in mine planning, resource development, and grade control. The position ensures that all geological practices align with industry standards and best practices in resource estimation. The insights and work produced will play a critical role in shaping the mine’s long-term strategy and overall economic performance.

  • Demonstrate leadership through our safety, promoting the correct safety culture within the department and wider operation.
  • Manage a team of geologists and technicians on daily geological activities.
  • Implement and manage grade control programs to optimize ore recovery and minimize dilution
  • Deliver effective technical evaluations for optimal ore extraction and waste segregation.
  • Drive ongoing development of mine geological models and interpretations to enable efficient recovery of the orebody
  • Prepare and deliver accurate daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly geological reports.
  • Develop and maintain geological models for the orebody, incorporating geological data from drilling programs, field mapping, and geological observations
  • Implement and maintain procedures for effective grade control, mine geology operations and mine- to-mill reconciliation, while ensuring data accuracy and compliance with company standards
  • Plan, propose, recommend and follow-up budgets (monthly, yearly and life of mine) for the geology department.
  • Work closely with mining team and provide recommendations for mine planning designs to incorporate geological insights into mining strategies
  • Drive UG mapping activities to interpret key host lithologies, major structures and controls of mineralization to maximize ore extraction and increase geological understanding of the deposit.
  • Manage and ensure drilling productivity meets budget forecasts in a safe and sustainable manner.
  • Update Life of Mine grade control drilling plans and schedules. Provide inputs for drill programs, near mine exploration, and feasibility studies.
  • Communicate geological interpretations with on-site resource modelling team for generation of accurate geological and grade block models.
  • Build and maintain collaborative internal relationships with key stakeholders (exploration, resource, reconciliation, underground operations, tech services)
  • Drive development of junior staff, through training and mentorship to increase team capability/skills.
  • Participate in, oversee, and/or lead the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology or any related field required. Membership of reputable professional board would be added advantage.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in underground mine geology, with prior senior-level responsibilities preferred.
  • In-depth technical expertise in mineral resource estimation and reconciliation techniques.
  • Proven experience in resource modeling, grade control processes, and detailed geological mapping.
  • Strong organizational, planning, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Solid knowledge of sampling procedures, assay protocols, and QA/QC practices.
  • Skilled in managing geological data to ensure integrity and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management capabilities in a similar geological role.
  • Proven track record as a safety advocate within both geology teams and broader mining operations.
  • Proficient in using geological modeling software tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of geological structures and gold mineralization processes.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications.
