The Benjamin William Mkapa Foundation (BMF) is a Tanzanian non-profit organization established in 2006 in honor of the late President Benjamin Mkapa. Its mission is to contribute to the improvement of the health and well-being of Tanzanians through innovative and sustainable health interventions. Initially, the foundation focused on addressing the critical shortage of skilled healthcare workers in rural and underserved areas.
Over the years, BMF has expanded its scope to include strengthening health systems, improving maternal and child health, enhancing HIV/AIDS and non-communicable disease responses, and promoting youth development and gender equality in healthcare access. BMF operates through partnerships with the government, local communities, and international stakeholders, ensuring that its initiatives align with national health policies and priorities.
The foundation is known for its effective deployment of healthcare workers in hard-to-reach areas, the construction and renovation of health facilities, and the provision of training and resources to enhance healthcare delivery. By fostering innovation and sustainability, BMF plays a vital role in bridging health equity gaps and supporting Tanzania’s journey toward universal health coverage.
