The Tanzania Horticulture Association (TAHA) is a leading private sector, membership-based organization tasked with advancing and supporting the horticulture industry in Tanzania, which includes flowers, fruits, vegetables, spices, herbs, and horticultural seeds. TAHA aims to boost the sector’s growth and competitiveness to contribute to the country’s social and economic development.
It serves as a collective voice for stakeholders across the horticultural value chain, including farmers, processors, exporters, and service providers. Currently, TAHA is executing a five-year USAID-funded initiative titled “Tuhifadhi Chakula,” which focuses on minimizing food loss and waste by improving post-harvest handling across key value chains, thereby enhancing national food security.
The project centers on four core areas: enhancing food handling, storage, and value addition; improving market access to ensure agricultural produce reaches consumers; supporting policy and regulatory reforms to curb food loss and waste; and building the capacity of local organizations in post-harvest management.
